Did You Know? The Untold Story of Toys

Did You Know? The Untold Story of Toys

Curtis M. Pearsall, CPCU, AIAF, CPIA
President – Pearsall Associates Inc.

With the holidays fast approaching, there is a good chance that many of your agency clients are busy checking off all the boxes on their Christmas lists and buying some nice toys for their kids and grandkids (and buying some for themselves as well). Without question, these toys will bring much enjoyment to all. That is, until there is a loss, and they find themselves without coverage.

To help the E&O agencies more fully know the issues involving these toys, Angie Heavener (one of the three E&O Plus reviewers) conducted an excellent webinar earlier in 2022. Angie addressed the growing popularity of “toys” and the fact that there is a good chance your clients may not truly understand (or maybe haven’t even thought about it) this new exposure and to what degree they have insurance if something happens.

The webinar (in the Links section in Passport – titled, “The Untold Story of Toys”), included discussion on the following:

  • Drones
  • ATVs
  • Off-road motorcycles
  • Pocket bikes
  • New Super bikes
  • Dune Buggies
  • Segway Transporter
  • Hovercraft
  • Golf carts
  • E-bikes
  • Motorized scooters
  • Skareboards (self-propelled)
  • Toy cars
  • Snowmobiles

At a minimum, the Personal Lines staff in your agency should view this great resource. How about picking a day to have everyone watch this recorded webinar and then discuss how you will identify the exposure? Virtually every agency is looking to round out their personal lines’ accounts. This is a great approach to getting that process started.
