Did You Know?

Did You Know?

One of the main goals that Angie, Mishell, and I work with you on is heavily focused on avoiding E&O claims from happening, or if they do happen, the agency’s defense has been strengthened to increase the odds of the agency prevailing. After all, the E&O program’s captive structure means when the claims and losses are down, the program stands a better chance of generating a profit, resulting in dividends for each agency (of which you are one).

For this reason, one of the E&O Plus program’s significant focuses is to provide all agencies with quality resources focused on education on the key issues shown to generate E&O claims in the past.

At times, during my visits to the agencies I am honored to work with, I find that some of the resources are not as well-known as we would like. So it would be appreciated if you would indulge me in reviewing some of these.

Webinars

All the webinars we have presented are recorded and thus readily available to staff. The webinars are located in Passport in the “Links” section. Well over 20 recorded webinars (1 hour in length) are just as timely today as the date they were initially presented. Here are some of the topics:

  • A review of actual E&O claims the program has experienced, including one focused solely on Commercial Lines.
  • The key issues dealing with Claims-Made coverage
  • The Key E&O Best Practices for the agency’s “new hires” is also a great refresher. Many agencies have made this session part of the onboarding process.
  • The E&O exposures of Employee Benefits
  • Exposure Analysis and why it is often called “the Silver Bullet in preventing E&O claims.”
  • The Untold Story of “Toys” is a great session Angie did that should be a must for all PL staff.
  • The “Why” of E&O Loss Prevention
  • How your Marketing / Promotional Materials can affect an E&O claim
  • Drones – a solid session done by Mishell
  • Producers and why they are often the key to a solid E&O culture

I trust you would agree that the list is pretty impressive. Our goal is to offer, at least quarterly, an online seminar on a key issue. We encourage the agency QC to disseminate the notification of these webinars to all staff and encourage them to register for the session.

Operations Guide

This document, also located in Passport, provides extensive insight and information on many E&O issues, including all of the E&O Plus QMP Key Components. We like to call it our “E&O encyclopedia.” It is periodically updated to address questions received from the E&O Plus members. It has become a tremendous reference tool for agencies.

Blog

Instead of determining who might be interested in the blog based on their agency responsibilities, many agencies have provided all employees with the link to the weekly blog (it is published every Tuesday). The focus is to enhance the E&O culture of the agency “one person at a time.” The blog postings are typically 400-600 words and address many topics.

On-Site E&O Presentations

We love to do these sessions for the staff (all of the staff or new hires). They are a fantastic way to ensure a strong E&O message is communicated to all staff.

Bottom line, the E&O Plus program is committed to helping you address and manage your E&O exposure. At the end of the day, if we can help prevent E&O claims from happening (or are less costly if they happen), everyone wins. Your support and assistance in ensuring staff know about these resources are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
