24 Jan Thanks for What You Do
As many of you know, 2023 marks my 49th year in the insurance business (yes, I am that old). Like many of you, I did not go to college for insurance. I was a journalism/communications major, and when my first job (a weekend DJ for a Utica radio station) only paid $2.35/hour, I needed to find a second job to pay the rent. As luck would have it, that was in the insurance business. I truly believe I have been blessed to spend many great years in this great profession.
Reflecting on those early days, I often wonder whether the insurance industry has a better reputation than it did in the 70s. This probably presents some challenges in recruiting some of the best and brightest. The bottom line is that we must actively promote the fulfilling careers the insurance industry provides.
Virtually every day, I hear stories (or see them on LinkedIn) about E&O Plus agencies giving back to their communities and those in need. It is truly remarkable and heartwarming to hear these stories because it shows how much you care and want to help those less fortunate. The causes are numerous, and the impact is beyond belief. For all of these agencies, thanks for what you do. Be sure to publicize your actions, as this will show the communities you serve what type of people you are and how active insurance agencies are in helping people.
These actions can play a key role in how you are viewed in your community and the overall reputation of the insurance industry. Together, we can make a difference.
